Maurienne, a land of welcome

The Maurienne welcoming tradition dates from its earliest days and is mainly due to its geographic position. Since then, everything that is needed to receive guests has been developed with the constant objectives of being both authentic and high quality.

The Maurienne know-how

For many years the Maurienne has been home to traditional trades: the wandering boiler, the bee-keeper, the shepherd, the knife-sharpener...

Story-tellers are also part of this landscape and help to keep the past and the legends alive. Zian des Alpes is renowned for exchanging stories about the Aiguilles d’Arves region and is the creator and artistic director of the Festival des Contes et Légendes de Montagne (mountain tales and legends festival) held at Albiez since 1996. In 1997, he also founded Les Sentiers des Légendes d’Albiez (the Ambiez legend trails). He has also written two books, Contes et Légendes du Pays des Aiguilles d’Arves (volume I and II, edited by Editions Derrier) in which he relates his experiences.

The gîte and the table

The Maurienne offers a broad range of types of stay with accommodation options ranging from a Savoy chalet to a hotel residence via guesthouses and gîtes, campsites and holiday centres.

Eat well, drink well

The diversity and originality of the region's culinary specialities, controlled by the seasons and produced by a generous and colourful land, are surprising: High Maurienne potée, fricassée de caïon à la Mondeuse, loin of pork with honey and cloves, apple and grape rissoles, pets de nones, sabayon, potato gnocchi, squash with Maurienne tomme, duck wings with honey and bilberries …

A mountain of activities

The Maurienne has created events and has structures that are suitable for welcoming families with quality as a constant watchword.

The Maurienne has numerous clubs that can meet the needs of any age group. What's available: swimming pool, farm visit, cable car rides, carriage rides, various leisure outings…
