A Mountain of Activities

The Maurienne's 24 resorts offer plenty of exciting open-air activities to help visitors make the most of the region.

The Maurienne for all the Family

The Maurienne is the number one winter sports destination for families.
The Maurienne's 24 resorts pull all out all the stops to treat children like royalty. Ski schools, nursery schools, initiation workshops, igloo building... To date, eight resorts have been awarded "Famille Plus" certification (Saint-François-Longchamp, Le Corbier, Les Karellis, Valloire, Valmeinier, Aussois, La Norma et Val Cenis), a nationally recognised award that testifies to the quality of services offered for children.
Culture and Tradition, Maurienne-style
As early as 1571, Montaigne was writing about the warmth of the welcome in the Maurienne:
"We dined in Lans-le-bourg (.) and then went on two leagues to a little village, where we slept for the night. Abundant trout and excellent wines, both old and new, are everywhere to be found."
Like Montaigne, door-to-door tradesmen, courtiers, artists, soldiers and travellers have, over the years, commended the "incredible fare" and the hospitality of the Maurienne people.
Perhaps it is the fact that they have often endured famine that the locals are so attached to this culture of excellent hospitality and excellent food.
The Maurienne, a Land of Sensations
This winter in the Maurienne, poetry is in the air. Several artistic projects are celebrating typical mountain crafts. It's a time for culture and art, for transient visual pleasures and works of beauty.
But adventure is also in the air in the Maurienne this winter! The winter calendar is full of festive events and displays - a feast for holidaymakers' eyes!
